Professor Zhang is currently the Vice President of Shandong University, Chief of the Medicine Department of SDU, Dean of the Medical School of SDU; Director of the Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education and Chinese Ministry of Health; Chairman of Department of Cardiology, Shandong University Qilu Hospital; Dean of Shandong University School of Medicine.
He also serves as a member of the international editorial board of Nature Review Cardiology, JACC-Cardiovascular Imaging, Heart, European Journal of Echocardiography and Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology. He is the chief editor, associate chief editor or editorial board member for over 20 national journals, such as the Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography and the Chinese Journal of Cardiology etc.
As a researcher at the forefront of atherosclerosis, Professor Zhang has led over 30 national and provincial research projects, including the National 863 Programme, the National 973 Programme, the National Science and Technology Support Programme during the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plan Period, the Fund for Creative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Key Subjects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Professor Zhang has more than 290 articles indexed by SCI (Science Citation Index), with some published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Lancet (IF 38.278), Nature Medicine (IF 22.462), Pharmacological Review (IF 20.225), Journal of American College of Cardiology (IF 14.156), European Heart Journal (IF 10.478), Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (IF 9.681), Circulation Research(IF 9.489), Diabetes (IF 8.286) , and Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (IF 6.368). He has authored 13 and co-authored 33 monographs in cardiovascular medicine, which have been cited for more than 4000 times in the literatures at home and abroad. He has been to the Chinese University of Hong Kong several times to give lectures.
